Breeding Farm Training Program Details

The Breeding farm programs will prepare exchange visitors for a career in equine reproduction, training, and showing or marketing. It will provide you an opportunity to gain hands-on experience participating in the breeding process, marketing, and client relations. Gain a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of the thoroughbred, standardbred or sports horse breeding, foaling, working with young horses, training and marketing.

Through the breeding farm program, you will learn about collecting and preparing semen and inseminating mares. You will also assist in foaling, imprinting, and halter breaking and Starting young horses in groundwork and under saddle, along with showing and sales. Most breeding farm programs are a full year in length.

This program can include:

  • Halter Breaking Foals
  • Showing/Sales

Some of the skills learned on this program may include:

  • Daily care of horses
  • Feeding
  • Turnout
  • Cleaning stalls
  • Assisting veterinarian and blacksmith
  • Some foaling
  • Sales preparation of horses for private sale and public auction
  • Grooming and exercise programs
